BOARD OF CONSERVATORS.

The usual meeting of the Board was held yesterday at noon. Present—Messrs R. J. S. Harman (chairman), Fisher, and J. N. Tosswill. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.

The report of the overseer was read. He reported that the river had been very low since the flood of April 6th. The work at the groin had been finished by reconstructing it with the concrete, placing a double row of blocks at the river end, and a small shingle bank behind the whole length of the groin. They were now working at the end of No 5, converting what remained of the old long row of boxes into concrete. There was more trouble in doing so than was expected, as the boxes were so broken that they would not hold the concrete until it was set. The worst part of the work however had been got over by bracing them together with fencing wire. Six boxes filled with boulders had been placed in front of the deep water where they were now working—and was prepared to put in more if the /Board approved of it. As a very heavy ..stream was running on to what was now a tweak part of the bank some repairs were -.necessary at No 7 which should be put in Ihand while the river was low. Tenders had (been received for carting willows, which were enclosed, and he was prepared to set the men on planting at once. A quantity of cement (498 casks) had arrived atTempleton station, of which 300 had been carted on to the work and the rest would be brought up as required. The report was approved,

Three tenders were opened for carting -willows, and that of Mr Pratt was ac•cepted. , . Several accounts were passed tor payment. . . It was resolved that the chairman visit the works and that a special meeting of the Board should be held shortly after his rectum. l'he Board then adjourned.
