Wellington, June 6.
The General Synod resolved that steps should be taken without delay for the better endowment of the Bishoprics of Waiapu and and Dunedin. Regarding the celebration of marriage, the Synod saw no good reason for making any formal alteration in the present usage. It was resolved that next ordinary session of the General Synod be held at Nelson, in 1877. In order to defray the expenses of printing, the following assessment was made;—Auckland, £2O; Nelson, £l6; Christchurch, £2O ; Wellington, £2O ; Waiapu, £l7 ; Dunedin, £l7. The Synod then closed:

Several members went South by the Tararua, including the Bishop of Dunedin, the Yen Archdeacon Edwards, and the Bishops of Auckland and Nelson. The Luna to-day took twenty-six Armed Constabulary to fill up vacancies at various posts in the Taupo district, and twenty of the Nativ'e Contingent for Tauranga. The first Provincial Executive consists of John White, secretary and treasurer ; A. R. Guinness, solicitor ; P. Duigan, goldfields representative, Dunedin, June 7.
The Provincial Council sat until after four this morning. Messrs Fish, J. C. Brown, and DeLatour took advantage of the
forms of the House to prevent the passing in committee of supply of £4OO for the Goldfields Secretary, on .the ground that no such officer was yet appointed. Motions reducing the amount pound by pound were moved and lost, and a division called on each. Soon after four the item was put and passed, while Mr DeLatour was talking to some members. The Dunedin press denounces the proceedings as likely to bring representative institutions into contempt. Port Chalmers, June 7. Sailed, ship Undine, for Hong Kong, with 35 Chinese passengers.
