ROAD BOARDS.

OXFORD. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Road Board of this district was held at, the office on May 29th. Present M s?rs Wilson Fisher, Cooper, Sedcole, and Gamin.m. In the absence of the chairman, .Mr Wilson Fisher was voted to the chair. The minutes o f last meeting having been read and confirmed, Mr Engelbricht waited on the Board, requesting a portion of the Harcvvood road by Riccarton, opposite Read’s corner, to be formed, and a culvert put down. It was resolved that tenders be invited for this work, to be sent in at the next sitting of the Board. Messrs Leurs and Woodfield waited on the Board, requesting permission to lay down a tramway on Bryan’s road. The Board informed them that they would offer no objections to their request, but. that they would have to lay it down at their own risk, as the Board were not in a position to give any protection. Tenders were opened for work near Woodstock station, and one accepted ; also, for erecting six laborers’ cottages, and one selected for recommendation to the Government for acceptance. The clerk was instructed to strengthen the girders of the bridge over Birch Gully ; also, to continue the embanking of Crallan’s drain ; also, to lay down a bridge on the Island rOad ; also, to write to the Superintendent, requesting to have certain portions of the road sides within the precincts of the township proclaimed footpaths ; also, to employ a few extra hands for keeping the main road in repair ; also, to arrange with some party to metal that portion of Bryan’s road leading to Leurs and Woodfield’s sawmill ; also, to inspect a portion of Sale’s road, and report at next sitting of Board as to the amount of work required. Accounts to the value of £72 14s lOd were passed and paid, and the Board adjourned.
