HIGH COURT ANNEXES TURANGA STAKES. JTfte summer meeting of the Pov. .-Mfty Bay Turf Club opened on the ■ Makaraka course yesterday in idem weather, and in the presence of a large attendance. The lawns and saddling paddock have never perhaps been seen to better advantage, and patrons enjoyed an excellent afternoon’s spurt, under „ the best conditions.
The racing was particularly interesting, all the liuislics being remarkably close, a tribute to Llm club’s adjuster, Mr. Ulie Shannon. The Helds' were well up .to the average, despite the fact that in some races, scratchings were more numerous than usual. One of the best Helds of the day. it is interesting to note, was in the Hurdle Race, when nine horses faced the starter.
Compared with the first day of the. summer meeting last year the totalisator investments showed a decrease of 62290, the total yesterday being £11,53$ compared with £13,«28 on the corresponding dav -:u 1929.
Riding honors lor the day wore divided between 11. Young and It. keesing. with two winners apiece, .J. .Nixon, J. Leach. P. Atkins and H. lx.. Alexander each piloting one winner homo. .
