Something in the nature ot a iecord has been established by a ewe bred and owned by Mr. "VY. t-. Cm ant, of Messrs. Crawford ami Grant, Gore. Last season this ewe had four lambs bv a. Suffolk ram. three being wethers and one a ewe. Each of the wethers was killed a few weeks ago as twotooths and killed out, at 1021 b, 901 b, and 98lb respectively. Ibis season the ewe had three lambs, each of which was killed fat off its mother before Christmas. On June I four members ot the Legislative Council are due to retire, their seven years’ term having expired. They are Hon. J. Craigie, of Timaru. Hon. ,F. Mander. of Auckland, Hon. TC. Newman, of Itangitikoi. and Hon. Vf. Rikihaua, of Auckland. The present strength ot the Council is 42, including the Speaker, so that after June 1 it will be reduced to 3S. It. is probable, since the custom is. to keep the membership about 4t), that some, of the retiring members may be reappointed or else new ones chosen to fill the vacancy. Something New- .
