BOWLS. (Special To The Times). OPOTJ.KI, Feb. 12. After being in the hands of the Taneatua Club for four years, the Forbes Cup has changed hands, being won by the Opotiki team. The results of the games were: AVhakatane (Baxter, Britten, Sloaiie. McIntyre) 19 beat. Citizens (Wilson, Tabl), Frew, and Battle) 10; Opelika (Morris. Burrett, Chambers and O'Sullivan) 23 beat Taneatua (Mitchell, McPherson. Merrie- and Ferguson) io. The final was a very close game, Opotiki beating Wliakatane by 21 to 20. Marjoribanks, and Black, of Opotiki, are taking part in the liorse events, having taken sixteen horses through. . . M. B. Abbot, who is leading in the points competition in the ring events for the Bay of Plenty circuit, secured another win when his liorse ’! arez accounted for the open jump ap the Te Puke Show on Saturday. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE. (Special To The Times). The members ot the above institute held their annual garden party at Mrs. -J. Main’s residence on Saturday afternoon. Beautiful weather prevailed and there was a large attendance. Great interest was shown in the competitions, the winners of which were:-—Clock golf. Miss Ferliison: nail driving. Mrs. Jeffery and Leo Clark; quoits, Mrs. Newth, croquet, Airs. Cooper. Mrs. Crawford and Mrs. McCaldon were in charge of the produce stall, which was well patronised. Mrs. A. Neilson organised a treasure hunt, where old' and young joined in the quest. The iced cake was won by Mrs. Fisher, of Paerata. . The reading of tea-cups by Mrs. Talbot was a very popular proceeding. During the afternoon, Mrs.- Alain, on behaif of members, m a few well chosen words, made a presentation to tiie president. Airs. Absolom, who is leaving the district. After musical honors had been given. Airs. Absolom expressed her sorrow at leaving the Institute, and thanked the members for their gift. 'The hostesses were Alesdames Noble, Cooper, Skuse, Thompson, Scott, Staveley, Morrell and Aiisses NeiL son and Allison.
