ANNUAL At FETING. MURE MEMBERS WANTED Thu annual meeting of the Gisborne J. P. Association was lic.d yesterday, the president, Mr. >Y. Lissant Clayton, presiding over an attendance of lo mourners.

In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, (as already published), the j resilient pointed out that flie work l had been rather handicapped by lack of members, it being impossible to secure regular attendance of country members. With more members, it would be possible to hold lectures, etc-, thus making members more competent to, take their places on the bench than perhaps thev were now. J? urther n larger centres, reunions "ere held,’but. such a scheme was impossible with a membership as low as their present troll. A projected visit to Wairoa had been impossible to arrange, but he hoped the incoming officers would keep that- plan n mind. Something was needed to arouse the district from its apparent apathy as illustrated by the fact that, of t>9 or 70 Justices of the Peace in this district, only 215 were members. At other paces, some much smaller than Gisborne, there wore far greater memberships. V arious matters of a confidential nature Tad been carried out during the year, and. in these respects, very good results had been attained. On*Mr? E. C. Lewey’s departure from the district. Air. P. H. Harper had been offered' and had accepted the position of patron thus loft vacant. Mr. Harper had also offered to give any lectures or help the association any way possible.

Mr. T. Corson seconded the motion which was carried umuiimous-

Officers were elected as follows. — President, Air. W. issant Clayton: vice-presidents. Messrs H. M. Porter and I. Alirliold; lion, registrar, Air. Jolm Jackson; .counoil. Airs. Beer, Alessrs George Smith, T. Corson, C. B’ackburu, F. W. Riach and AY. Hamilton Irvine; hon. solicitor. Mr. F. AY. Nolan; hon. auditor, Air. W. Hamilton Irvine. Particulars of business remits, etc. set down for the annual conference of the J.P. Federation of New Zealand, to open at Timani on March 19 were received. The oonsßlorntion of the remits was left to t’-e executive and the appointment of a delegate from Gisborne was al«i left, in their hands. Mr. J. J. Roberts intimating that he might he able to act
