PATUTAHI QUARRY

COOK COUNTY TO TAKE OVER. BOROUGH TO BE SUPPLIED. Recent- negotiations between ilio Borough Council, the Cook County Council and the Patulahi Town Board, in relation to stone sup. plies from the last-mentioned body’s quarry, were dealt with in the Pillowing report- submitted to the Borough Council meeting last evening: “A deputation from the Cook County Council consisting of the chairman (Mr. Outs. Matthews) and Cr. -E Tomblexon, accompanied by the clerk, the engineer, and the cojunty solicitor, waited upon the mayor and explained the position in respect to the Patutalu quarry. It was pointed out that the piesent operations in the quarry were practically all on the Council’s loan reserve, and not in the quarry property, an<l royalty could not be claimed on stone quarried in this locality, and there was sufficient stone in tins area to last tlie County for at least five years. All the plant, of course, was the property of the Cook County. 'I he remainder of the stone in the quarry reserve comprised about twelve acres, and it would lie very awkward if both the Cook and Borough were working simultaueous.y. 'the Mayor stated the main desire cf the borough was to obtain metal supplies, and they were in no way antagonistic to the Cook County. The council wanted about 8,000 t yards per annum, and they iiad no objection to the quarry being worked Ly the county, provided stone was supplied ata cost price. After a lengthy discussion on the subject, it was eventual 1 y agreed to recommend that each* council set up a s.'.all committee to draw up details m connection with' the acquisition of the quarry by tho Cook County and lor them to suply the borough with stone pat cost‘price, plus a. fa ir percentage for use of plant, *t being mentioned that for the first two years the country would not he aide to guarantee .more than d.OvU’' yards per annum as they had a large highways undertaking in ha tid.”

The report was adopted and the works committee appointed to meet the Cook County Council committee to attend to details.
