RIFLE SHOOTING

CHALLENGE AIATCH. XUHAKA V. GISBORNE. A challenge match between Nuhaka Rule Club and the Gisborne Riiie Club took place at the Alanga. papa rifle range during - the week, end resulting in a win for the Gisborne team by a margin of 41 points. Three ranges were bred over, 300, 600 and 600 yards, a sweepstake also being shot over the three ranges. There was a good attendance of marksmen and excellent shooting was a feature. A tricky wind prevailing at the range rather upset some of the shootists, whilst others again experienced little difficulty. 1 trophy presented by Rifleman F. Hogg for best handicap aggregate for the day was won by F. Jeune (junr) with a score of 108 oh scratch. R. Breingan was runnerup with 100. At the conclusion of the day’s shooting, the president of the Gisborne Rifle Club, D. Rait. expressed the pleasure derived by local marksmen from the visit of the Xuhaka team, and hoped that when the two teams met. again in contest the southern team would be successful. Rifleman J. Austin (senr), president of the Nuhaka Club, speaking in response, thanked the Gisborne Club .ior a very pleasant day and added that he also hoped it would not be long before the two teams met again to try conclusions.
