ANNUAL MEETING OF GISBORNE CORPSThe second annual meeting of the Gisborne Eire I’ol.ee and Salvage Corps was held at the Eire Station last evening, Mr. R. I • Doddrell, tin* chairman, presiding over a attendance. The annual report. presented to the meeting, was as lollows:—“During the year .‘IS tires were at tended hy members of the corps, as against *j‘7 last year, and il is pleasing to note that not. one alarm was sounded without some members being on hand to render sendee il required. In June last, wo had the pleasure or welcoming hack our chairman. Dir. Id. T. Doddrell. fitter his trip to England, and at a later date he :/nv< an account of his travels, and ins impressions in relation to the unemployment dole, transport, and marketing- of (he Dominion's produce, having collected both facts and figures when interesting himself in these matters at Home. At the March meeting lire extinguishers were discussed, and some very useful information was brought out. A suggestion that- a reward ol £5 he offered hy the Eire Board for the detection and apprehension of the culprit giving false alarms has been adopted and it is hoped it will he I he means of quelling Ihe nuisance.” —The report was adopted without discussion.
Officers were elected as follows: Chairman, Mr. B. S. Broe; vicechairman. Air T. M. Garrett ; capt., Mr. A. Zacliarinh ; deputy-captain, Mr A. Sutton; lieutenants, Messrs. W. Bignell, P. J. Allen. H. F. Forster,* IS. Grundy. H. A. Hamilton, R. Mortimer, G. Nicholls and G. IA. Paslov; lion, secretary and treasurer. Mr. G. K. Pasley.
Mr. C. Vaughan was elected to membership. Warm tributes to the work of the soeretarv and treasurer. Mr. Pasley, were paid by the incoming chairman, Mr. Bree, and, other members,_ a vote of thanks being accorded with acclamation. Reference to the keen Interest shown hy the retiring chairman, Air. Doddrell. was made bv several speakers, it- being pointed out that the formation of the corps was largely due to his efforts. A vote of thanks for Mr. Doddrell.’s gend work was a!“ a carried with acclamation. The remainder of the evening was devoted to a social, which was hi• ge~ Iv attended hy members of the Uri<mdo as well ns the Fire Police. Mi isical and elocutionary items.' together with an impromptu billiards tournament, were thoroughly enjoyed and the evening was voted an outstanding snqcess by everyone present,
