OVER £4,275,000 SEttfT OUT OF N.Z. LAST YEAR. INCREASE OF 36-PER CENT IN CARS. umnss sales advance 72 PER, CENT. (Special to the Times.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. Daring 11129 over £4,278,000 was •sent out of New Zealand in purchase of motor cars, trucks, buses and chassis. This represented an increase of 36 per cent in motor car imports. An analysis of the dutiable values of imports shows £1,840,570 on motor vehicles from the United States, C 1.574,246 from Canada, £853,755’ from Britain and £10,149 from other countries. The total number of cars 1 and car chassis imported from all sources was 23,361, compared with'9 16,504 in the preceding 12 months," an increase of 42 per cent. . The total of British pars and earf chassis was 1064; in 1928 the figure., was 2364, so that in the past twelvo. months the increase in British imports has been 72 per cent. Increased production and consequently cheaper cars, are represented by the fact that in 1922 the average: car was valued at £202 -at port off shipment, but last year the figure was £147. The average, price of Eng-, lish cars in 1929 was £172 as against'. £196 in 1928 and £547. seven years. ago.
