Adcock will speak on ‘•Democracy under the ALicroscope.” The anniversary . f toe birth of Charles Dickons, 118 years ago, will be celebrated at 1A A this evening by the presentation ol a special programme to he given by members of the Auckland Dickens Fellowship. This programme will consist of a lecture by Air. A. B. Chappell, president of the Auckland Dickens Fellowship, and readings by members of excerpts trom the writings' of Dickens. The programme to be presented will be a treat to admirers and lovers ol Dickens, the glory of hi s writings is the great Throng of outstanding personalities. He took, as it were, a wide canvas aid crowded it with hundreds oi figures of humour and humanity. Amnv of these, characters will metaphorically step out of tlic loud sneakers this evening when the broadcast from IYA L being received. Miss Mi 11 icont ;O’Grady ( soprano) and Air Len Barnes (baritone), who will bo heard in solos and duets.
At 7.40 at 2YA Air. F. AI. Ryan will give a talk on “Eire Protection Gems from operas, both grand and Tight, as well as some miscellaneous classical items, will comprise 2YA,’q concert programme. Aliss Nora Greene will sing “When All Was Young” (from “Eaust’): Schubert’s “Restless Love” and Braga s “La Sererfata.” The; last mentioned item, will have a violin obligate. AD. William lie us haw’s item’s will he Goring Thomas’s “0 Vision Entrancing” and “The Jewel bong (from “Faust”) and a solo from “Lucia di Lammonnoor.” Solos from “Eriiani’ ami “Der 1* reise.hu.iz will be sung by Mr. .R. Madigan (bass). There will be elocutionary items by Aliss Esiuc Crow. A teiy choice programme of instrumental music will be presented by the 2YA orchestrina, under Signor A. ITruda.
A feature of tills evening's programme at 3YA will bo the dance music which is to he played by me Thai ley-Alarston Dance Orchestra, 'l'lie ' numbers will' comprise the very latest tunes to reach New Zealand, for the Bailey-Marston Danct Orchestra, is not onlv one of .the most' efficient of such combinations in New Zealand, but also specialist, in presenting the most up-to-mate rlance tunes. The supporting vocalists for the evening will he Miss Pmttv Sutton. Mrs. -T. A. Stewart, Mr. D. Suckling (a fine tenor wlO lias not been heard from 3\A for some time), and Air. A. 0. f l liomnson (a verv popular baritone, recentlv returned from a trip to England). Elocutionary items will ho gi\on hv Miss Ruby Boot.
i There will ’he a classical programme at 4 \A. fhe Broadcasting Trio will play two movements from two Iloissiger Trios. These are exceptionally fine numbers. The vocalists will be Aliss Rac Stubs,- Muss Mary Somerville -aud Air Los Stubbs. Recitations by Miss Anita AVinkel will include one of Stephen Loa<?ock’ s and two by A. A. ’Milne. There will be violin solos by Air Roy Spademan.
