SHOULD ALL SHEEP BE SHORN at same Time?.

Barker, professor of textile industries at Leeds University, writing in the Yorkshire Observer, raised the question of whether shearing at the same time every year should be abandoned. He suggests shearing to a length at which wool should bo sheared to give the best manufacturing results. Shearing to give a square top would enable the production of a stronger and mere perfect fabric. In Africa wool districts tho demand was that lambs’ wool should be shorn at six, eight, and ten months.

L At Monday’s wool sales 9407 bales were sold, including 8840 from Now Zealand. Among (the Jailor sales were: ILN/Raukawa greasy hallbred, widen realised 14d; Waitaki and Pukeuri, super hull bred slipe lamb wool made 17d. Keener bidding in London caused a firming of merinos and fine crossbred tops in the Bradford market. Sixty-fours were quoted at 29d, sixties at 28d, fifty-sixes at 22jd, fifties at 18id, and forties at 15d. (Received Feb. 5, (5.55 p.m.) LONDON, .Feb. 4.
At to-day’s woolsales 10,400 bales were offered, including 2725 New Zealand. The total sold was approximately 9530. A large seloct,jou of. merinos, principally topmakers’ sorts, met with strong Yorkshire competition and prices were firmer all round, most descriptions being now 2J to 5 per cent above the opening rates. Best New Zealand greasy crossbred made 14.p1, -fine slipe crossbred lambs Hid.
