G.R.C. OPENING- DAY AT PARK
The summer meeting oi' the Gisborne Racing Club will be opened on the Park to-morrow, and despite the Gain yesterday-, and up till an early hour this morning it is anticipated that the (meeting will be very successful in every way. The Park racecourse is well known one of the best “wot” courses in New Zealand for the sandy subioil allows rain wat or to disappear, very rapidly. 11 the weather should bo line to-morrow, therefore, it is .expected there will Iv a large attendance. The majority of the outside horses engaged at the meeting have already arrived, and needless to say, their 'schooling gallops have been watched closely by local enthusiasts, winners at Wairoa being subject to especial interest. Hie fields will be fairly large, lint- with some of the n ost prominent jockeys'available for the meeting, there . should be no shortage of riders. Tint committee are fully satisfied with the acceptances. From present indications theHack Gold Chip promises to be one of the best sporting - propositions seen here for some time, and the other races should also present followers with some interesting problems.
Special trains will be run from town and country by the Railway Department and bus services as usual will be run at regular hours on both days, while the big, fleet of' taxis will no doubt come in Tor some good business. TRACK NOTES (By Cynic.) There was a good attendance »t track watchers at the Park v«»torday morning to witness the semifinal gallops. Ri. Butterworth was the first to commence, sending _ Superb King (Dunn). and Tea. Lady (Butterworth) seven furlongs which, they ran in 1.30 2-0. Tea- Lady in front. Ardri (Butterworth.) was" responsible for a good gallop over six furlongs in 1.17. Waitoki (Atkins) ran five furlongs in 1.3 l—o. pulling up w.ell after it. Bay d‘Ov (Young) which _ performed unsuccessfully at Wairoa -did light work. Singleton (Kowhaj) and Manifest (Gomm) - ' were companions in a e-ix liirlong gallop run in 1.171-5, noth bitting out freely and pulling, up well Rich Harvest (Comm) wont two strong rounds on the plough. The chestnut has not done a. lot of galloping but is in good nick. Lady Waikoliu (Young), ran three furlougs in 87 4-£>set\, and is on the improve.
Keen (Weaver) was responsible for (he only gallop on the plough, 3unring four furlongs in 52sec.‘, doing it well within himself.
R,mining Over . (Gomrn) did light work on the plough, and is in nice order to commence racing on' Thursday.
Fair Autumn (Gomm) was given a light task on. the plough. . To- Awha (Young), appeared to bo going bettor than Highcourt (Weav- ."■) ovp’- six furlongs in 1.161-5, the first- urlong iir l'lsec., the first two in 24 4-ssec., and the first three in 37 1-oset?.- The former appeared to l:*e going better at both ends of the trial.
Polvdorus (Morgan) which went well with Valsier in his, Lift gallop, was given two rounds at'a slow halfpace on the plough. High Heather (Weaver), was given light, work .on the plough over two rounds.-.
Plain Sailing (Hockley), went a round, at half-pace ancl trotted , one round.
Tail (Kowhai) as usual was wor.kpj very freely over two strong rounds Russet Moor (Davis) was always going easier than Scarlet Runnot over six furlongs in 1.17 2-5. Taking 1.4 2-5 over the last live, furlongs. King Mann (Young) sprinted up the straight. The bay gelding ran three good races at Wairoa, and is very well at present. Primax (Davis) appeared to have the best of Agile (Bell) over foui furlongs in 50 2-ssoe. Atapai! (Leach) led Squadron from end to end in. a four furlong gallop in 50 l-ssec. Atapai was ridden out, winning by throe-•lengths.; r Fino Tama. > (Loach) rn n three furlongs in 37 2-ssoe., hitting nut well. Startle (Atkins) heat Nalii By five lengths' in a 'five furlong gallop in 1.3. Nalvi rocentlv got hurt in a. wire fence and is backward.
Toboggan 1 (Nixon) heal Dimmer l,y tbroe, lengths liver five furlongs in 1.3.1-5, anil , would probably have done better with something to make the pace. Autumn Sun (Clements) was set a light task on the plough. Rongo (Nixon) went lire furlongs in 1.3 2-5. going, evenly throughout. Climatic (Davis) worked 011 the plough in a pleasing manner, anil is improving with every gallop. The half-sister to Startle will be ridden in the Scurry by 11. Goldfinch. Rich Crop (Bell), went two steady rounds on the. plough. •. , Coonardoo (Clements) anil Erin’s Boy (Walsh) were, companions . over six" furlongs in a working gallop which took 1.6 2-5. Valsier (Bell) bit out freely over two rotiuils and is none the worse for bis let-up. Sunglare (Adams) went a couple ol strong rounds on the plough. Purseful (Walsh) was always going better than I‘VrufT (Clements) in a round of the schooling fences in 1.44 3-5.
Good Spoil, (Clements) ran seven furlongs 111 1.3.1. C'ynette (Walsh), joining in over tho last live furlongs and finishing 011 terms. Tamworlh (Atkins) and Queer Card (Walsh) both hit out freely over two rounds of the plough. Singleton’s .three-year-old full-sis-ter (Gonuii) appeared to go better than Million (Leach) over three furlongs in 38 2-5. Kinsel (Ivowhai) went better than Oteno (Davis) over six furlongs in 1.15 2-5.
Elizabeth (Walsh), worked steadily on the plough. Ruku (Bartlett) did his usual round of the fences without mishap. Lady Horton (Gomni) ran five furlongs in 1.5, doing her best. Whakaari (Davis) anil Outfit (Walsh) finished on terms over five furlongs in 1.3 2-5. lago (Walsh) went four furlongs comfortable in 51 sec.
J. Plummer arrived yesterday from Wairoa with Rakaroa. The mare met with injuries on the trip that may prevent her 'racing at the Park. EX-N.Z. DERBY WINNER AGRIOX WINS £SO TRIAL STAKES CONDITIONS MAKE VICTORY EASY United Pre=s Assn, by El. Tel. Copyrißtn (Received Feb. 4. 11 p-m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 4. Agrion, a former New Zealand Derby winner, and now in West Australia, won the Trial Stakes ot £BO at the Canning. Park meeting 011 Saturday. Victory was made possible, by the following conditions: “For all horses that have not won or received a stak© for a flat race of the net value of £SU since September 1, 1929.” Agrion carried 10.0 and ran the seven furlongs in 1.29 1-5.
