MUST LEARN NOT A WORLD IN THEMSELVES
ARRIVAL OF OTHER 1 INTERNATIONAL ATHLETES
(Pres* Association.} WELLINGTON, Feb. 4. Dr. Peltzer, the German athlete, arrived to-day. Athletics are only a recreation with him, for in Germany ho is a lecturer in economies, and when not on the running track in the countries ho is visiting ho is engaged in analysing the social conditions. He does not see much hope iu Australia’s high tariff policy. They would, lie said, have to learn they were not a. world in themselves. There should he a periodical survey of protected industries. The progress of industry and the general air of prosperity in Japan surprised him. and the future of the country seemed very bright. He considers free trade the only way t-lio world can lie made happy all round. His own country was laboring under extremely heavy taxation, in which all had to share. Hie following athletes also arrived to-day: Lermond (United States), Golding (New South Wales), and Einton (Germany).,
Dr. Reltzer probably will go on to Rotorua to-night, and he hack in Wellington for Saturday’s meeting, after which he and Einton return (to Germany via Australia. Java, and India. Lermond and Golding will tour the Dominion, competing at meetings in various centres.
