The Feilding Show opened yesterday in lovely weather. , The entries are a record, hut the stock, entries show a decline compared with last year. Traffic on the main north highway beyond Rakauroa is now using the new concrete three-span bridge recently erected for the Public Works Department. Standing at about the same level as the old wooden linage, the new structure is well clear of the possibility of flood damage. The main spun is 40ft and the approach spans each about 20ft.
Mr. T. M. Milford, paying a tribute to the co-operation of the Umpire Marketing Board, stated that it had been responsible for a most successful fortnight’s campaign by New Zealand in Glasgow, when 22,000 samples of cheese had been sold, also 24.000 samples of butter, and 1f,,000 samples of honey. The Wairoa County Herd Testing ‘.Association Incorporated report that the average butter-fat, of the 16/4 cows under test in January was 31.03 lbs. Messrs. Shaw Bros, herd of 37 cows and Mr. Toiii Taitu’s six cows each averaged JO.SSlbs. with Mr. P. V. "Warts' third with an . average o« 40.031b5. The lowest herd averaged 21. l*2lbs.
