In the men’s junior singles Craw_ ford (New South Wales) beat Coldham (Victoria) 6—B, . N.S.W. BEATS AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, Jan. 31. The New South Wales tennis team, which sails for Sydney by the Niagara to-night, defeated Auckland by six matches to two this afternoon. Following am the results : Singles— N. Peach (N.S.AV.) lost to Bartleet 6—4, 2—6, o—6; J. McCausland lost to N. Sturt 6—3, 4—6, 3—6 : J. Fitzgerald beat Brinsden 5—7, 6—3, 7—5; Dr. A. L. North beat Sims 3—6, 6—3, 6—2 ; F. Peach beat A. C. Johns 3—6, 6—-4, 6—2; Brewster beat Griffiths 9—7, B—6.8 —6.

Men’s Doubles.—Peach and Peach beat Griffiths and Brinsden 6—l, 12 —10; Fitzgerald and Brewster beat Sturt and Johns 2—6, B—6, 6—2. P.A.

GISBORNE CLUB TOURNAMENT

WILLIAMSON SCORES IN • SINGLES. MISS HEGARTY AND BLATHWAYT WIN COMBINED. Two finals in the Gisborne Club’s handicap tournament were played off during last week. In the men’s singles R. Williamson (scr.) defeated N. H. Bull (owe 25), 85—69, after a good game in which pfeady play by both players was the outstanding feature. A closer game resulted in the meeting of Miss Hegartv and W. Blathwayt (rec. 5) and Miss Graham and B. K. White (rec. 15) in the final of the combined. At one stage. Miss Graham was . leading by 35-18, but Miss Hegarty pulled up splendidly to equalise the scores at 50, **nd thereafter to forge ahead to win by 60 — 57. Misses Ormond (rec. 20> entered the final of the ladies’ doubles by defeating Misses J. McKenzie and L. Muir (owe 15) 6p—49.
