FALLING INTO SEA

LARGE BLOCKS OF STOVE

DEPT. ADVISES HARBOR BOARD

That large blocks of limestone such as might be suitable for harbor construction works were available a.t the Mahia Peninsula, at a spot easily accessible ft*r boats, was forwarded by the Dept of Scientific and Industrial Research to the Gisborne Harbor Board yesterday. The officer in charge of the Department wrote stating that Mr. M. M. Ongley, on the staff of the Mahia survey party, had reported that the limestone at both Long Point and Black Bend(wcst side of the Mahia Peninsula! is shedding immense blocks of stone into the sea, and these are not bored by the .worms or shells that riddle the sandstone and mudstone. Suitable stone for Gisborne Harbor works could easily to got there and both places are easily “worked by boats” Probably the Board would find it worth while to instigate the localities mentioned by Mr Dugley, concluded the letter. The chairman explained that Black Point was situated on the Hawke’sBay side of the Peninsula. On his motion it was decided to write to the Department thanking it for the information.
