IF WAR CAME
RASH TALK IN U.S. SENATE (Received J!an. 31. 11 p.m.) WASHINGTON. Jan. 29. Debating the Naval Bill in the Senate, Senator Willis opposed the appropriation to build three additional scout cruisers, declaring that there was no danger of war with the British Empire. In colloquy with Senator Hale.-who urged the appropriation, Senator Willis said that- Senator Hale knew that if there were t-o be a war with Britain, the United States would win “through the hostages 4 we have at our very door’’ and that the United States would invade Canada, annexing it immediately. “I decline to be alarmed about thus nightmare of the navy” Senator Willis declared. Senator Robenson, interested in what Senator Wills said about invading Canada and carrying out the same analogy if the United States were at war with Japan, said the latter would immediffc’ly seize the Philippines and Hawaii, thus menacing the Panama Canal.—A. and S Cable Assn.
