There are eight C-vcnts on the raid, commencing ’ with the Trial Handicap at noon, and concluding with 'the Steward s’ Handicap, »ei down t.r o. p.m. The big event of the day, tne roverty Tay i.up will 5 art auou--1.30 p.m. _ and ten high-class trotters are engaged m this event. .The clue has never before in its existence had such representative neld.s, some of tile oest horses in Auckland', Ashburton, Asiihurst, Hawera, Lienheim, Green-meadows, Hastings and Woodville stables being present, while tlie Gisborne contingent as usual will be in strong force. The track has never been in better condition, and it is anticipated that some very fast times will oe put up. During the afternoon the Gisborne City Rand will play selections on the lawn. A special train will leave Gisborne for the Park at -11.30 a.ni., returning from the coursQ at 5.45 and 6.10 p. and uusal a large fleet of taxis and motor buses will run to the track from an early hour. ROYA L RACES IN CHRISTCHURCH oj c. rekusedfermission TO HOLD TROTS. DUNEDIN, Jan. 28. At a meeting of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association to-day, permission w’&s refused the Canterbury Jockey Club to hold a trotting race in connection with the race meeting to be l held at the time of the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York. It was stated that a trotting exhibition could not be appreciated on a mile and a-half course.— RA. N.Z. TROTTING ASSN DUNEDJN, Jan. 28. At the monthly meeting of tbs Board of the N.Z. Trotting Association consideration of the Shanghai case was postponed for one month. The sum of £IOO was granted to the widow of Archie Matheson, trainer, who was killed on the Southland course. ' . The application of the Cambridge Club to increase the stakes to £I2OO from the May meeting was granted. The board declined to confirm the registration of the names Jamito and Sweet Melody (the same names as the gallopers.)—R A.
