A novelty lias appeared on the market in the shape of a toasted tobacco, which has caused quite a sensation in smokers circles. The ■process of toasting seems to have a most beneficial effect upon tobacco, similar to what cooking, broiling and roasting has on food. It develops the flavour and makes generally more savoury and appertising, and last, but not least, also more digestible. Small wonder that the local product has greatly gained in' popularity through this latest improvement, and smokers arc advised to give it a trial. They are in for quite a new flavour. There are three grades obtainable now—Riverlicad Gold: a <rory mild and aromatic smoke; Toasted Navy Out (Bulldog), of medium strength; and if you prefer a full body try Cut Plug No 10, the Bullhead 'label. All made .of a now type of leaf famous for its small percentage of nicotine. Doctors and experts proclaim them to be healthier than most of tho foreign tobaccos, and another consideration is their low cost. They will reduce your tobacco hill bj 33 per cent. Traffic 'on the back Ormond Road has damaged the surface considerably since the bottom course of metal was laid, according to Cr. J. EL Tombleson, speaking at the Cook County Council meeting yesterday. He inquired if it would be possible to bitumcnise a section of the road this season, as loft in its present condition much of the benefit of the metalling would be lost. The eountv engineer (Mr. J. ,T. Keane) replied that all the allocation for the current vear had been expended, and apart from that the bitumen plant would be busily engaged on the Main South Road until the end of the season.
