BATTLE IN SNOW
MOROCCAN WARFARE IN WINTER. FRENCH DEFEAT NOTORIOUS REBEL BAND. (Received Jan. 28. 5.45 p.m.) TANGIER. Jan. 27. French troops after a forced march through snow, and suffering terrible hardships, have surrounded the notorious chief Hammou and his band of followers upon the snow-covered heights of Beni Ourain mountains, where they are determined to sell their lives dearly. Hammou and his chief supporters’ fell fighting. The remainder were captured.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
