PAHIATUA, Jan. 27. The second day of the Pahiatua races was held in splendid weather. There was a, large attendance The totalisator put through £11,282 compared with £12,968 ,on the second day Jast year. Tile total for the meeting was £24,056 against £26,241 last year. An inquiry was held regarding the winning of Shut Eye who paid the principal dividend of the day. After hearing evidence the committee decided to accept the explanation offered. Hobson, rider of Arch Arrow, in the Tararua Hack Handicap, was cautioned for crossing in the straight —P.A. EGMONT RE-HANDICAPS WELLINGTON. Jan. 27. An inquiry concerning the crossing of Nine of Spades by Royal Damon in the Awapuni Handicap at Palmerston North on Decern!for 28 was conducted by the Wanganui Ditsrict Committee to-day. The decision of the stewards to award the race to Nine of Spades was endorsed, while the punishment of Royal Damon’s jockey, S. Anderson, was extended from one month’s suspension to two. —P.A.
