FISH IN RESERVSIRS

SUGGESTED STOCKING WITH BROWN TROUT. AN AUCKLAND PROPOSAL. (Special to the Times.) AUCKLAND. Jan. 27. A proposal to have the Waitako and Nihctupu reservoirs stocked with trout, was made at a meeting of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society this evening The President. Mr C. A. Whitney, said there were 152 reservoirs in England stocked with fish, and magnificent catches had been obtained from some of them. “Within 18 miles of the c-ity.' : said Mr Whitney, “we have two reservoirs perfectly suitable for stocking, especially with brown trout.” He suggested that a large number, say 100.000. could he put in, and it would then be unnecessary to add to the number for some years. Such a move would bring ir. good revenue for the Society and the City Council and ideal fishing would be available for city residents who could not get away to the country. The trout would clean the reserve’;-, and eat the decomposed matter. It was decided to prepare a report on the question and to approach the Mavor.
