SURPLUS TEACHERS
NO OVER-SUPPLY IN! OTAGO. APPLICANTS’ OWN FAULT IF WITHOUT POSITION. $. DUNEDIN, Jan.. 27. At a meeting of the Education Board the chairman said that in the north they were much perturbed about the over-supply of teachers. Speaking for Otago, he did not think it would be very much worse than in the past. At the beginning of the year it had often been said there had been too many teachers, but when they got into the middle of the year it was found they had no teachers to send for relieving work. A good number of teachers'- were witnout positions, but that was their own fault. They wanted selected positions where they could go to the University and take a degree. They had not had an over-supply of teachers in Otago. Towards the end of the year the supply of relieving teachers would he used up. Another speaker said the Depar..ment was inflicting an injustice or, Otago by forcing the Board to accept North Island trainees in the college.—P.A.
