WOOL MARKET

SECOND AUCKLAND SALE.

AN OPTIMISTIC FORECAST,

(Special to the Times.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 25

The second wool sale of tho season in Auckland will be opened ou fl’ebruary 21. Already there arc- largo stocks in the local stores, and the work of re-classing is proceeding briskly. Owing to the fact that a period ol about three months elapses between the first and the second Auckland sales, growers have ample time to shear and get their wool into -the stores without creating the feverish rush that precedes the first sale of the season. The wool is opening up well and is rather heavier in condition than that ottered at the similar sale last season. The tone of the market at recent sales in the South is steady, and the improved demand for aIL classes ol wool inspires the hope that the standard of prices established at the first sale will at least be maintained. Possibly an improvement may be shown.

The offering was originally limited to 23,000 bales, but ns the wool coming forward is considerably in excess of”tliat quantity, and effort is being made bv the Auckland Woolbrokers' Association, to have the limit extended to 25,000 bales.

LONDON SALES LONDON, Man. 25. At the wool sales there was a good general selection. Competition was keen, prices being very firm. New Zealand “C.M.” realised! 18d. •Messrs!'*Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd., are in receipt of the following cable from their 'London house, under date January 25: “Sales continue firm ; market shows hardening tendency! French buyers operating freely . Compared present sales opening rates, crossbred pieces, greasy, medium and fine, advanced 5 per cent.; slipe, crossbred par to 5 per cent, advance.”
