BOROUGH COUNCIL

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council was held last evening p-esent: The Mayor (Mr. Geo. Wildish), and Crs. H, H. DeCnsta, H. Maude, J. N l . Budarcl, T. E. Toneycliffe, C. E. Bickford, D. W. Coleman, L. T. Burnard, J. Blair and Thos. Todd. The Fire Board advised that under the Fire Brigades’ Act, 1926, the election and appointment of two members of the Borough Council was to be made in February, and thereafter in the same month in each alternate year. It was decided that the question be held over till March. A suggestion was received that the Gisborne Borough Council should cooperate with other boroughs and counties in the Auckland province in forwarding a banner bearing a welcome greeting to assist in the decoration of Queen Street,' Auckland, for the occasion of the visit of the "Duke and Duchess of York. The banner would be placed with other decorations which- would be provided by the Auckland City Council and business interests in the city.—-It was decided to purchase the banner. Statistics of the sanitary works and improvements carried out in the borough during 1926 were asked for by Dr. W. B. Mercer, medical officer of health, on behalf of the Health Department.—i The matter was referred to the engineer.
