(United Press Assn.—Copyright.) A. & N.Z.C.A. Special Correspondent (Received Jan, 24, -8.50 p.m.; KINGSTON (Jamaica,), Jan. 24. The Renown moved out of Kingston Harbor eai’ly yesterday morning. The departure was far simpler than the arrival. Salutes from the warships barely disturbed the Sabbath quiet. Crowds watched from the shore, and ultimately a touch of enthusiasm and cheering was lent to the occasion b} a group of young negroes on the beach at Port Royal, whence the shore battery fired a last salute. The Royal party- attended church in the forecastle during the morning. This, owing to the unpleasant weather conditions, had to be a standing service, no seats being possible. During the visit a full sports programme was conducted, including a Soccer match, which was lost, and a water polo and relay swim, which were both won by the Renown. The ship’s marines beat tne Army in a lightweight tug-of-war. Men and officers of the Renown also Joined in football and cricket matches, the Navy versus the Army.—•A.N.Z.u..n.
TANGLE IN CHRISTCHUKCH. TWO CLUBS WANT RACE MEETING SAME DAY. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 24. The decision of the reception committee to hold a race meeting on the occasion of the Royal visit has led to a tangle in regard to arrangements. . Mr George Gould, chairman of the Canterbury Jockey Club, states that the Minister of' internal Affairs assured him that the Club would be granted a totalLsator permit for a meeting on March 15, to which date the February meeting was deferred. Mr Gould considers that the reception committee should not go back on the arrangements with the Club. However, tne New Brighton Trotting Club is nroceeding with its arrangements for a meeting at Addington on Marcn 15, for which a licence -has been granted. The matter probably will be finalised at a meeting of the reception committee on Wednesday.—P.A.
