HOTEL WORKERS’ HOURS
MEN’S DELEGATES WAIT ON MINISTER. WELLINGTON, Nov. 0. Various matters affecting hotel workers wore placed before the Minister of Labor to-day by a deputation from the Hotel Workers’ Federation. They asked for an amendment of the Shops and Olliees Act to bring it into line with the other awards. Girls in restaurants nominally worked eight hours, Imt the period could bo spread over fourteen hours. They would like this spread reduced. They thought 8 o’clock late enough to work.
The Hon. 0. J. Anderson said lie intended to go into various matters in regard to the I.C. and A. Act during the recess, with a view to new legislation next session. The question of horns of female workers in restaurants was investigated by the Labor Bill Committee, when it was pointed out that it was almost impossible to manage res'taurants unless tlie hours were spread over a fairly lengthy period. However, he would look into the request.—-I’.A.
