Sir J. Allen, presiding, promised Sir C. Fergusson a great welcome in New Zealand as the successor to Lord Jellicoe, who had been a great success. He hoped lie would visit Australia, with which ho had close connections.

Sir G. Fergusson recalled the vivid pleasant memories of his early life in South Australia. He feared he had not many qualifications, but lie was going to do bis best. He paid a tribute to New Zealand’s effort during the war. He mentioned that the New Zealand artillery in 1918 wars under his command. He expressed the opinion that, the wartime spirit of cooperation and self-sacrifice would furnish the only solution for the present had economic conditions and unemployment. S*ir C. Fergusson declared that a policy of “give and take” between Britain and the Dominion's was an absolute necessity. He believed that the next five years would show a

vast invprovomentvin the general situation in Britain and the Dominions. He had the greatest sympathy with the aims and inspirations of the Dominions and would do his utmost to promote the welfare of the people of New Zealand out of genuine, love ar.d affection.—Reuter.
