WATERFRONT TROUSLE
UNREST EXTENDING-. FIFTEEN COLLIERIES MAY BE AFFECTED. SYDNEY, Nov. 5. The watersjde trouble is extending, other unions being affected. At least seven inter-State steamers will be laid up in Sydney and Aleibourne this, week, thus throwing out of work members of the- maritime unions. The numbers cf returned soldiers and sailors employed by the Shipping Bureau were increased, following a, ready response to the cal! tor more men.
The Trolley and Draymen's Union makes no secret of its unwillingnessto lie drawn into .the dispute. The irritation policy is being carried on, only t-o a much modified plan. So far gear lias been replaced and goods covered at knocking olf time. There has been no report of go-slow tactics, or faulty loading and stacking. At Newcastle unemployment is also increasing. The coal trade is menaced by the coal trimmers’ refusal, to work after 4 p.m. If at the end of the present week the tactics are still in operation fifteen collieries cn the Maitland field will have, to close down idling 7500 men. * It is reported that dissatisfaction exists among a number oi coal trimmers over the abolition ot overtime. The rate of payment till -4 p.m. is 3s per hour: after that 4s 6d. It is learned from a reliable quarter that a petition has been lodged with the secretary of the Coal Trimmers’ Union asking that another meeting be called to review the posj-
tion. AfELBOURNE, Nov. t> _ There is no apparent weakening in the decision of the Alelbourne waterside workers to hold aloof from the overtime strike. —U.P.A.

COAIPLICATIONS POSSIBLE. OAYNERS TO CALL FOR UNIONIST VOLUNTEERS. (Received Nov. 5. 10.-50 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 5. The waterside trouble was little changed to-day. *' A "meeting of marine stewards decided that until the forty-seven members of the crew of the Aloreton Bay have been reinstated no member of the union would oiler his services in. any capacity. Following this decision, the management of the Commonwealth Line lias decided' to call for unionist volunteers to £ll vacancies. This may lead to further complications.—U.P.A.
BAIPLOYERS’ SCHEAfE NOT AIADE PUBLIC. UNIONS AIAY BE DEREGISTERED (Received Nov. 6, 12.55 a an.) So far the shipping, companies have SYDNEY, Nov. 5. suffered considerable inconvenience, but net- much financial loss through the overtime strike. Work for the vbr.rfics has been substantially cut down by their own action', and the Shipping Labor Bureau men, against whomi the light is directed, are kept busier than ever. The Marine Superintendent of the Oommoifwealth Line staled that the line had a scheme to meet- the situation but- would not yet make it public.
It is believed, however, that thoLine will make application to the Fed-, oral Arbitration Court for deregistration 'of the Waterside Workers’ Federation, the Sea men’s Union and the Marine Stewards’ Union. A meeting of the Alnrine Stewards* Union decided not to work the Aloreton Bay until all the dismissed men were reinstated. The Fernda-le is still short of nine firemen an'd nine seamen and will be moved cn Thursday to dock, where it is eypeeted a crew will be signed on. The perishable cargo has been despatched by another steamer. The stewards of the jFerndale gavo-twenty-four hours’ notice of their intension to leave the shin, but ns the, vessel will not carry passengers she-. %an sail without stewards. A mass meeting of watersiders decided not to work the,Commonwealth steamers until-).the disputes with, the., Morctoiv Bay’s -stewards and the. Ferndale’s seamen have been sctt-ecu —U.P.A,
