The night was every stormy,, though thousands of helpers and hundreds of motor-cars rushed to the sienc of the disaster. Those killed include the driver, whose body took some time to find, also Charles Grearne, and Commander White, of the Star liner Bardic. Alany were terribly injured. Several prominent Lancashire business men were involved. One man was decapitated; anotaer was obliged to have his leg amputated. A signal box was smashed to smithereens. The signalman was hurled into a creek below, hut escaped.
Commander Greame was <most> courageous. He insisted cn the other sufferers being attended to before biin-elt. The scene of the catastrophe was appalling. Bloodstained limbs could be seen beneath the carriages.. Tho cries of the injured were insist distressing. Thre oS. the injured in hospital are in a scuous condition. According to a Liverpool message the Lancashire railway disaster was due to the tyre corning of a front wheel. The engine was travelling at fifty 7 miles an hour.—Reuter.
