GOOD ROADS OR BAD

COOK COUNTY RATIO’A VERS TO DECIDE. / TO-DAY’S ROLL.

To-day tlio ratepayers of the Cook County will decide whether they prefer had roads to good highways, both main and secondary, throughout the district, whether or not they will •sanction the county loan of £153,000 which will he subsidised with large grants by both the Main Highways .Board and tho Public Works Department to construct first-class roads throughout the County. Tho attitude of the ratepayers to the loan proposals on which they will vote to-day, differs greatly from the stand taken up last year in that there is practically no opposition, that Js, judging from the resolutions passed at the campaign meetings held. Consequently it is anticipated that • the loan will bo carried by a largo majority.

The allocation of the money to the various roads has been a-subject of complaint by some ridings, hut the Council has considered every phase of this aspect of the question, and has apportioned the' money on the most equitable basis possible. It is understood that tho County Council is, with one exception, unanimously in favor of tho loan.

During tho past three weeks tnc chairman of tho Council (Air Cl. AI. Reynolds) and members of tin; ridings have been actively engaged in the • campaign in furtherance of the loan, .and tlio meetings held in various parts of the County have indicated thuL the ratepayers fire ready to vo,e for the loan. A.'r Reynolds expressed gratification at the reception which tho ratepayers bud given to tlio proposals, stating that ratepayers who last year had voted against tho proposal's weio now staunch supporters of the loan and hardly one voice had lieon raised in opposition at any of tho meetings. That the Government realised tho importance of roads to this district, said Air Reynolds, was borne out by tlio manner in which they had tackled the question, and ho felt sure that the ratepayers by their vote to-day would give a similar indication of their opinions. While ho had,, no doubt as to the result of tho poll, be appealed to ail those on the roil to record their votes, as the larger the majority tho greater would ho the confidence of the Council in giving- effect to the proposals. Tho polling booths fixed by the Council arc as follows:
