The mythical personage known in nursery days a.s the “clerk oi' the weather” certainly .showed himself most unkind to the racing fixture on Saturday, but relented on Monday and blue skies and sunshine favored patrons. V solt cool breeze tempered the warmth of the sun and so made the Opportunity for spending the day a golden one. The dressing of the lady patrons was a. much admired feature, the gowns being artistic in design and harmonious in color. .Mrs ,J. li. Barker, charming frock of white voile handed with navy Kgyptian trimming and touch of cerise, the toilette being completed with a white hat and cerise parasol. Mrs A. J. Cameron, smart toilette of black with black laco and effective black hat. Afrs R. F. Burke, black taffeta with circular open-work trimming and hat to match with pretty trimmings. Airs Ralph Alurphy wore a pink raffia hat with a dainty rose pink headed toilette. AFrs Fenwick, cream silk stock ingot to costume striped in saxe blue and worn with a white straw hat encircled with white ribbon. Airs (Dr.) Bowie, dainty toilette of black maracnin piped with white and inlet with white nceoicleon pleated georgette. A small black hat was worn to match. Aliss H. Nolan, silver grey plenun georgette and smart black hat. Aliss D. Earns-Graliam, sapphire blue pleated georgette with Oriental epaulettes of striking design and hat with orange-tinted flowers and streamers. Aliss Nancy Williams, picturesque frock of almond green pleated georgette with lint of the same colors and streamers of grey velvet. Airs H. Drummond, grey crepe do chine with smart cire lace overdress and black 1 at. Airs AieSwccney (Pukekoho) very dainty crepe do chine toilette piped with cerise and small white hat with streamers to match. Ludbrook. sapphire bine coat frock effectively pleated and blue hat to match. Miss D. Runciman, delicate pastel tinted frock and pule grey hat. Aiiss AL Hookey, ivory tinted skirt witli pink knitted sleeveless coatee, and underblou.se with dainty lace and small hat. There were numerous others also ui very stylish and much-admired confections.

A special stall is this year being "devoted to novelties at the Arts and Crafts Exhibition, which is being held on Tuesday Nov. 11. at the City Hall. Here will he found tiie daintiest of fragrant lavender, made up into attractive boxes, baskets, bags and sachets; vanity cases, gaily colored raffia bags and purses which every woman will long to possess. : leather foot cushions, shopping hags, rug holders, rubber bags for beach use and useful leather carriers for library bo «i.s. Dainty ladies in crinoline and pompadour gown form novel tea eosies and another trim maid is seen who will do duty as a door stop. Coat hangers, specially lor wee smfrocks, as well as large ones, sworn trays, porch and suede cushions, etc., are only a few of tiie other attractions which will lie there on sale. In another corner of the Exhibition will be found a charming collection of water color sketches. Included are many local and beautiful native bush scenes. River and sea-scapes are also daintily portrayed.
avedding. GARDINER—HAYES. The marriage of Arthur Ralph Gardiner, son of Air and Mrs. Gardiner, Ormond Road, to Philumena Clare Hayes, daughter of tiie late Air. and Airs. I’. Hayes, took place on October 21 at the residence of the bride s sister. The ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. Dean Lane, took place in the drawing-room, which'was decorated with streamers and a wealtii of spring flowers. The bride was attended bv her sister. Air-. \\ . L. Colcmr.n. as matron of honor, while Mr. Keith Gardiner acted r.s best man. .Alter the ceremony the guests adjourned to the dining ream. where afternoon lea was served., 'iho presents were arranged in the livingroom and included a dinner service and Daulton cake stand from the firm and staff of Alos.-rs. Common, .Shelton and Co. All. and Airs. Gardiner left later by car, carrying with them the best washes of a large circle of friends.
