POWER BOARD
CONFERENCE WITH ENGINEERS
PRELIMINARY SURVEYS TO BE MADE IMMEDIATELY.
A conference between the PovertyBay Power Board and Mr H. F. Toogood, of the firm of Templin and Toogood, of Wellington, recently provisionally appointed consulting engineers, was held on Saturday afternoon. The Board discussed the proposals with Mr Toogood, and decided to confirm the appointment. Mr Toogood is to stay in Gisborne for a few days before returning to Wellington, hut will return later with sufficient staff to make the land survey and conduct an inquiry into the potentialities of all possible sources of supply, -it is understood that the engineers will submit a detailed report to the Board before the end of tho vear. This will then he considered by the Board in formulating its policy. Mr J. R. Templin, M.A.’I.E.E., the other member of the 'firm, will also ho in Gisborno for the purpose of investigating. This is the fourth Power Board scheme that is being supervised by Messrs Templin and Toogood in the North Island, the others being the Hutt Valley, Wanganui-Ragitikei and Dannevirke. Active work in connection with tho. reticulation of the Hutt Valley district was commenced in February, and by the middle of December, when it is expected that power will he available from Mangahao, it is anticipated that Eastbourne, Day’s Bay and other hays, Lower Hutt, Trentham, Upper Hutt, will he completely reticulated, and a population of 20,000 connected with electric power.
