RABBIT BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING
The East Coast Rabbit Board met on Saturday morning, when there were present: Messrs K. AI. Hutchinson, AI. T. Trafford, H. Williams and D. Ross, stock inspector. The report of Inspector McGill stated that sub-inspector Burgess had inspected the sand hills beyond Opotiki and had found no traces of rabbits either there or on the sandhills beyond Whakatane and Ohiua on the Rualoki beat. During Sept. 31 rabbits bad been caught, two on the Te Teko block, seven on the Waihau block, eight on the Kopuriki, Te Houiti and Galatea stations, thirteen on Galatea ar.d Tawhiai and one on the Whiruaki and Te Waitu blocks. Sub-Inspector Dawson had been over a portion of the Wairoa district which was found to be in good order, traces of rabbits being found at Erepoti where one was killed. The rabbits killed were as follows: Ofoi 1; AYairaka 7: Tutaekuri 1 doe and six runners; Alohaku 1; Run 33, 2; Petere 2.
Accounts amounting to £52 11/10 were passed for payment.
GISBORNE SCHOOL MEETING OF COAIAHTTEB Tho monthly meeting of the Gisborne School ’Committee was held on Friday evening, when there were present: Alii 1 G. Wildish (chairman), Airs Church, Rev. James Aitkeu, Messrs W. J. Robinson, H. H. DeCosta, A. F. Davev, and O. W. Muir.
Jt was reported that tho contractor, Sir F. Dittmer, had made good progress with the putting down of a concrete flooring to tho cubicles at the school swimming bath. The work was practically completed, and would effect a big improvement. Arrangements bad also been made for fixing brackets for window shades for the school.
In reply to representations asking for a renewal of the subsidy the Education Board advised that the matter had been placed before the Department.—lt was explained that no capitation was received last year. Tho headmaster reported that the attendance during tlio month had been very satisfactory, the present roll being 939, and the-- average attendance 863, 92 per cent, of the average roll. Nurse Leo, of the Education Department’s staff, had visited the school on Thursday and Friday, October 30 and 31, and had examined the girls of the various classes with respect to personal cleanliness. Miss N. AI. Bee, who had been relieving at the Mangapapa school, had been sent to the Gisborne school as an additional teacher, and commenced her duties last Thursday morning. As soon as the improvements to the bath were completed and the concrete set, tho usual school swimming classes would be commenced.—The report was adopted.
