FLORODORA
ANOTHER LARGE CROWD Ai
OPERA HOUSE
' Each succeeding performance of “Florodora.” by the Gisborne Amateur Operatic Society sees an improvement, and tho performers have now quite settled down to their parts with the consequent disappearance of all signs of nervousness. Hast night the Opera House was crowded and the play went with a swing from start to finish, each vocal number being accorded prolonged applause and' necessitating its repetition. Mrs Ralph 'Wildish continued her very successful interpretation of Dolores, her two principal numbers “The Silver Star of Love” and “Queen of the j Philippine Islands” being especially’ popular. Mr W. Bignell scored hear- • ily as Lord Abereoed, particularly in the haunting solo “The Shade of the Palm.” x Miss Doris Webb as Lady Holyrood and Miss Lucy Wheeler as Angela Gilfain were very’ popular. Tho humor of the play was well placed in tho hands of Mr A. Zachariali as Professor Tweedlepunch and Mr TV. J. Sinclair as Cyrus Gilfain, and their work caused continuous roars of laughter. Mr O. V. Harre, as Captain Donegal was a dashing mill- * tary officer and Mr J. Nicol was very successful as Leandro, the overseer . on the island. The chorus also showed J considerable improvement especially j the sextette “Tell Me Pretty Maiden.” i To-night “Florodora” will be re- . peated for the last time, and as it j is fully anticipated that the theatre will bo crowded long before the epeny. ing hour, patrons are advised to hook seats early this morning at Miller’s Corner.
