THE WEATHER

WELLINGTON, last night. Present indications are for south easterly and easterly winds strong to gale northward of Hokitika- and Jvaikoura, and easterly to northerly breezes elsewhere; weather cold squally and showery generally but further heavy rain is expected in many parts of the North Island and the north-east districts of the South Island, with snow on the higher levels. The barometer is unsteady, but should be falling soon in the South, rising in the North.
