BUTCHERS’ AWARD
NEW RATES OF PAY AUCKLAND, Oct, 30. The award of the Arbitration Court filed in the dispute between the' Aucklaul Butchers’ Industrial Union and the Poverty Bay Master Butchers’ Industrial Union of Employers at" Gisborne, and ten butchers carrying on business in Gisborne, Tolaga Bay, Waipaoa, puba, Tokomaru Bay, To Karaka, and Mangapapa lias been delivered.
lii a memorandum Mr Justine Frazer stated that the Court had settled the clauses relating to wages and an annual holiday. In other respects the award embodies the recommendations of the Conciliation Council, which the parties agreed to accept. The award sets out the minimum rates of wages of first shopman or man in charge, £5 17s Gd per week; second shopman £-3 ss; first small goods man, £5 17s 6d ; man in charge of hawking cart £5 ss; all other hands employed in connection with the business £4 16s. The rates prescribed are weekly rates, and are not subject to any deduction save for time lost, through illness or the default of a. worker. The minimum rate for casual labor is 2s 6d per hour. No casual labor is allowed for boys. Employers may employ boys or youths at not less than the following wages: Under 16 years, £1 '“10s per week; 16 to 17 years, £1 15s; 17 to IS years, £2; 18 to 19 years. £2 17s 61; 19 to 20 years, £2 15s; 20 to 21 years, £4 12s 6d. - The proportion of boys and youths shall not exceed one boy or youth to every three men or fraction of three men. , _The award will take effect from November 10, and continue till November, 9, 1927.—P.A.
