ALLEGED CORRUPT PRACTICE. (Received Oct. 30. 11 p.m.) SYDNEY. Oct. 30. The sittings of the Royal Commission into CToplev’s allegations of corrupt practices in connection with the City Council have opened. _ A detailed account of the allegations has already been cabled. The names of three Alermeu—Walker, Charlton, and Shannon—were mentioned in connection with the allegations. \\ inker asked for an adjournment in order to obtain legal representation. Shannon said that he did not know he was going to he drawn into the matter and wanted to proceed with the ease immediately. Charlton said that as nis name had been nicitionerl he. wanted to get legal representation. _ Ail agreed to an adjournment till tomorrow.
CREEP AT AIT. MORGAN ALINE. BRISBANE, Oct. 30. A general movement in the workings at the A.lount Aforgan mine has been felt during the past twenty-four hours. The creep is causing uneasiness and all hands and horses have been withdrawn as a precautionary measure. The inter-State Labor conference rejected a proposal for a capital levy to finance motherhood and childhood endowment. The conference declared that Australia was capable of supporting a larger population but insisted that accommodation and employment he provided before inigrants leave from overseas.— u .1 .a.
