CHIEF OF POLICE IX TROUBLE. OTTAWA. Oct. 28. A moral wave is sweeping over Montreal, following investigations which culminated in last week’s quadruple hanging. Civic- reformers arc seeking the head of Chief of Police, Belanger, who spent an uneasy forenoon in the' witness stand before Judge Coderre. wno is conducting an. inquiry. Belanger admitted borrowing sums ranging from cue to five hundred pounds sterling from relatives of police detectives whom he promoted. He admitted he went into sporting resorts for amusements, the same as any other private citizen, but the Court declared it was impossible to distinguish between the two.—A. and X.Z.C.A.
