At Westfield beef was a large yarding. There was steady competition at late quotations. Extra choice ox 33s per 1001 b; choice and prime 25s to 325; ordinary and plain 2is to 255; prime young cow and heifer 21s to 235; ordinary cow 18s to 235; rough beef 12s to 17s; heavy pritfie steers £l2 10s to £l4 ss; lighter £lO 15s to 7s (id; light £8 to £10,10s; small and unfinished £5 15s to £7 15s; heavy prime young cows and heifers £7 15s to £9 12s 6d; lighter £0 to £7 10s; light £4 to £5 15s; tiier cows £1 10s to £3 15s; bulls £2 to £6 15s.

Calves were in large numbers and prices declined. Runners 78s to 94s ; heavy vealers 58s to 68s; medium 42s to 565; light 2ls to 40s; smaller 13s to -£l9s; small and unfinished 3s to 8s;. rough 12s to 255. Rigs were an average yarding. Prices 'were linn at late quotations. Choppers 58s t 745; heavy, and medium banners 69s to 77s ; light baconers>‘and lieavy porkers 60s to 6Ss; dinm and light porkers 52s to 58s. Stores were easier. AN IRREGULAR, SALE

CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 29

The Addington market sale to-day was very ii-regular both in the mutton and beef sections. The former opened briskly but sagged in later stages, with occasional pens making top prices, whilst beef also receded in value.

Store sheep.—A very small yarding, mostly of ewes and lambs. There was n littio mrc freedom in the sale than last neck. A good line o! owes and lambs all counted made 29s ; forward sound and failing mouthed shorn wethers 24s Rd ; small 2 and 4-tooth shorn wethers 25s 2d'; shorn wether hoggets 2-!s 3d t 24s Id ; |Jbred woolly wether hoggets 345; sound-mouthed crossbred .Gives and down lambs 295; good ewes and lambs 23s 2d; aged crossbred lambs 19s 3d to 21s Bd. Fat lambs. A smaller yarding ot 191 compared with 330 last week. It •was a .spirited sale and an advance of 2s Gd per head. Prices ranged from 30s to 40s.

Fat sheep.— A small yarding and a sharp advance from the outset but, in the later stages, the sale was irregular. Generally, the values were up on last- week by Is 6d per had. Extra prime woolly wethers to 62s Gel; shorn 47s 3d; prime woolly wethers 51s to 5Ss; shorn 42s to 47s 3d; medium woolly wethers 49s 6-1 to 53s 6d; shorn -37 sGd to 41s'; light woolly 43s to 48s 6d ; extra prime woolly ewe.s 60s; prime 48s to 535: shorn 33s to 40s ; medium woolly 42< Gd to 47s Gd; shorn 33s Gd to 35s Fat cattle.—A heavy yarding of about 500 head and an advance in value in the earlier stages but a later easing, values being most irregular. Best beef averaged from 43s Gd to 47s 6d; medium from 38s co 435; extra prime • heavyweight steers £23 ss; prime medium £lB 30s to £2l ; medium £l6 to £18; light £l2 10s to £ls 10s; rough £9 to £l2: extra- prime heifers £l6 to £l7 12s 6d; prime £l2 15s to £ls: medium £9 10s to £l2 10s; light £6 to £9 ; extra prime cows £l6; prime £l2 to £l4; ordinary £<) to £ll 15s; aged £4 to £8 10s.

Vealers.-—Good stuff sold well Runners made to £7 15s ; good veal Cl'S £8 5s and calves £4 15s.

Store cattle wore scarcely so good a sale as last week. Three and four year-old steers made up to £7. Dairy cows were a better conditioned lot, but a weak sale. Best springers £6 to £B.

Eat pigs flooded the market, entries being forwarded from Dargaville (North of Auckland), Kaikoura and Murchison (Nelson). It was the largest yarding lor the past two years and prices receded. Choppers £2 10s to £5 10s; light baconcrs £3 7s to £4; heavy £4 5s to £4 10s; extra heavy £4 19 —average price per II) 7d to 71 dj light porkers £2 7s to £2 13s; heavy £2 15s to £3—average price per lb 7-J-d to Sd.
