RAILWAY COMMISION
BLENHEIM, Oct. 28. The Comm issioners who are to report on the New Zealand railway system—Sir Sam Fay and Sir Vincent Raven—arrived from Wellington, accompanied bv W. J. Girling, M.P.. R. W. McVi’lly, genera! manager or railways, F. W. Fiukort, Eng’neer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department and the beads cf the. various railway branches, the party, with secretaries and officials numbering 17. Mr Girling introduced a delegation from the. Marlborough Progress League, who, shortly, represented the League’s case for. completion of the South Island main trunk railway. (Picton-I3luff). The Commissioners appeared much impressed with the League’s case and seemd to appreciate the necessity for completing the line, so as to give Marlborough ah adequate outlet for its primary productions and the advisableness of filling the gap from a national point of view. They promised to give the case careful consideration and expressed appreciation of the force of the arguments used. They appeared to he of the opinion that the merits of tho case for the completion of the line were so clear that it was only a matter of finance. The Commission is on its wav to Christchurch, via Kaikoura.—P.A.
