RELIEF WORK LOAN
HOW' THE MONEY HAS BEEN EXPENSED. The loan of £2OOO, raised some time ago for the relief of unemployment in Gisborne, has now been expended according to a report submitted by the Borough Engineer to the Borough Council last evening. The Council had a balance of £1342 in hand when a number of unemployed were taken un tins year. Hie report stated that a number of men had been engaged under the loan clearing slips on Haiti Hill and the work was now completed. The men had also been engaged grading and putting ill order the river bank reserve, between Peek) Street bridge and the Wi Pore memorial. The balance of the loan nniiies had been expended, and was allotted as follows: /Albert Street, £143 4s 9d; Birrell fycreet, £3 3s 9d ; Clifford Street, top jfnd, £-84 16s 3d: Childers Road, £5 fi os 3d; Crawford 1 Road, £2OB 7s 6d doLautour Road, £lO2 1 / s lid ; Dickson Street, £33 11s 3d: lvarti Hill Reserve, £l3O 10s su; Kaiti beach, £142 7s 4d; Leith Street, £93 16s 6d; MacDonald Street, £4O 14s Id; Northcoto Road, £Bl 11s 3d; River band reserve, £l9 5s sd; Roebuck Road (south end), £7B 8s 6d; Salisbury Road. £l6 19s lid; Stout Street(between ’Wi Pore and Ballanee Streets), £64 3s lid; Sheehan Street (Russell Street end), £35 9s 2d; "VYaiinu Road (at junction of deLautour Read), £23 3s 9d; miscellaneous, insurance, etc., £33 15s Od; Total, £l-342 Is lid.
Or. Coleman stated that he thought that the, engineer bad expended the loan money impartially over all parts of the Borough and each district had benefit ted. He desired to thank the Engineer for the allocation of the moire v.
The. Mayor stated that there: was no doubt that the money had been well expended.
