WELLINGTON, O'ct. 27. The Public Works Statement shows that the amount available last year for public works was £4,954,027, and the net expenditure was £4,066,004. There was a credit balance as at Match 31 last of £385,023; legislative authority exists.for raising a further £5,C00,920, it is proposed to transfer from the accumulated surplus £1,000',090 and to borrow a further £2,009,000 • when required, making the total available £8,358,943.
