TO BE ESTABLISHED AT ■GISBORNE.
ASSISTANCE TO TRAVELLERS
.V tourist information bureau, which is likely to prove of the greatest assistance to the travelling public, is being opened in Lowe street in the near future. The object of the bureau will he to give full information to tourists and travellers regarding all routes in the Dominion. No charge will be made for the service, and the bureau will he run on the lines of tho Government tourist bureaus.
The room in which the bureau will be conducted has been tastefully furn:she:! and will serve as a retreat where visiting tourists can meet their friends, transact business, or write letters. A telephone is provided and tho basic idea behind the scheme is that of giving service to the .trave lli n g pu blie • A manager, with a thorough knowledge of all steamship, railway, and motor service routes open in the Dominion, will be appointed, and lie will he lii a position bo advise tourists :a-s to the best scenic resorts to vis.it, and where tho best accommodation •may be obtained. Business men will also be able to make use of the burica.u anil obtain information as to their quickest and best connections when travelling from one district to ;an other.
There a re'many little known beauty ■spots in this district, and by providing, the facilities whereby the public can become acquainted with them, the bureau wi-’l ho rendering a service not only to tho public concerned, hut also to the district as a whole. The type of service which will prove the most useful of all, however, is iii the case of people desirous of seeing many different parts of New Zealand. They wil’l bo able, through the service rendered at 'the bureau to book the whole of their tour, and reserve accommodaton at the hotels en route. They can obtain ab the necessary steamer and' railway tickets here in Gisborne, and no charge will be made for the service beyond the actual cost of the telegrams- for reserving accommodation, etc. There is no doubt whatever that the bureau which is being opened is destined to play ft very important part in the develcmment Of the tourist traffic in this district, and that it will prove an absolute, boon to the travelling public and visiting tourists.
