TO OPEN TO-DAY

'illo forty-fifth annual show of th& Poverty Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Association will be opened to-day, the judging commencing at 9 a.m. The entries this year constitute a record, totalling i/25, compared with lobb last year, and the increased entries sees also a much keener interest evinced in the show by the public, in response to demands, many extra classes have been inserted in the schedule, and practically all have drawn large, entries. In addition to the cattle, sheep, horse and pig classes there are also largo and well-filled sections for poultry, pigeons and dogs. Each of these sections has drawn a liberal response from owners and the result is expected to exceed anything yet soon on the ground. The produce section should also he most popular. Amongst the special show attractions is a sheei> dog trial (pulling, driving and yarding), in which there are fourteen entries. As usual, the competitions will excite keen interest, especially the jumping contests. The entries m these competitions this year have been unprecedented, there being no fewer than 37 in the leaping match for lady riders, 4.6 in the jumping competition for horses that have not previously won a first prize, 37 in the open jumping, 53 in the wire jump, ? in the. high jump, and 16 in the leaping match for ponies. On the stands will represented the principal business firms of the district, each with specially attractive exhibits. The side shows will, as usual, he a source of never-failing interest, and as the applications for space this year have far exceeded those oi previous years, a record number of attractions should be iu evidence. Circuses, vaudeville shows, freak animals, mystery shows, highly trained animals, etc., together with the usual stalls of every description run by loud-voiced salesmen —all will be there and the public, as usual, wilt combine the instruction and education received at the show with a generous quota ol amusements. Throughout to-day a taxi service will run to the show grounds. To-morrow, “People’s Day,” special trains will leave Gisborne for the grounds at 10.50 a.m., 1 30 p.m., 0.4 C i).40 p.m. and 4.20 p.m. Tc-day, tho blood, light, hack, pony and harness horses will be judged and also the stud sheep The dog trial will he commenced at 10 a.in. Ihe competitions will include best boy rider, best boy bareback rider, high jump, maiden" jumping. and wre jump.
