SEQUEL TO FAMILY ALTERCATION.

HUSBAND CHARGED AVITH INTENT To MURDER WIFE.

SYDNEY, Oct. 23

Following on an altercation in his home at Paddington, Ethel Leighton, wife of Frank Leighton, a well-known city merchant, was severely wounded in tlie head with- a shotgun and admitted to hospital in a critical condition. After the shot was heard, Airs Leighton’s little daughter ran down tho lane calling for "'“Help!” A neighbour rushed into the Leighton’s house and found Mrs Leighton on the floor in a pool of blood. The police were informed and on arrival found Leighton upstairs in a chair smoking a pipe, and blood running from a superficial wound on the head, alleged to ho self-inflicted. The police state the shooting is the outcome of a long-standing domestic unhappiness.

Mrs Leighton informed tho police she was sitting at a table writing when she felt a blow on the back of the bead and fell unconscious. Leighton has been charged with shooting with intent to murder.— ILF. A.
