MISSING BUSINESS MAN

BELIEVED TO BE AT AYAIROA

REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN SEEN BY LOCAL TAXI-DHIVER,

The mystery concerning the clis--appearance of Mr H. P. Swan, a wellknown business man, who left his homo on Tuesday evening, is believed to have been solved. If reports prove correct, some further light should be thrown upon the alf air- to-day. Mr Swan it may be recalled left his '.home on Tuesday evening, and as his family were uneasy over h.s departure they 'communicated with the police. The Fire Brigade volunteered to assist in the search, and, ever since search parties, representing both bodies have patrolled the river banks and the sea beaches.

Last evening Mr Hedley Wyllie, a driver for the Gisborne Motor Service, returned to town after a run to Wai:s:oa', with news that, in the afternoon, while in a motoring firm’s office at Wairoa, a man resembling Mr Swan came in but. on seeing Mr Wyllie, he withdrew. Incidentally it may be stated, Mr Wyllie is personally acquainted- with Mr Swan, and the latter knows Mr Wyllie.

The man, who Mr Wyllie is firmly convinced was Mr Swan, was at the time wearing white shoes, though at the time he left home he was bootless and shoeless.

On his return, Mr Wyllie reported the matter to the police, and, shortly afterwards re’atives and friends of hr Swan left in a ear for Wairoa.
