SYDNEY, Oct. 23. Sir Joseph Carrutliers, who Tecentiy visited Fiji, lecturing thereon, said that Fiji trade is at a standstill, and it is to Australia’s discredit. The exclusion from tho Commonwealth of Fiji bananas is to a great extent responsible for the. unsatisfactory state of tilings. The Fi : Sans now turned their eyes to New- Zealand, Canada, and the United States. Trade with the last-named lias increased 'SOO per cent., and with Japan 400 per cent. The importance of the Fijian Islands to Australia was not properly, appreciated.
